An Analysis to Personalization
Reasons and Effects
This thesis examines historical traces of personalization that led to present developments of filterting within the Internet. The attempt of structuring disorder by relevance makes personalization inevitable. A personal order saves time, effort and proves itself to be an efficient tool. Especially in the Internet, such structures have become premises to find orientation in the data surplus. To ensure it, personal preferences and interests of Internet users are analyzed and evaluated. These methods have long been criticized by many specialists and artprojects. This work examines the cause and effects of personalization on individuals and the collective. Personalization turns out to be a steady companion. Through sensitized awareness, however, alternatives are opening up.
